Building the future of biogas in the Nordics
A fossil-free, circular and sustainable society
St1 Biokraft has ambitious targets; by 2030, we aim to produce 3 TWh and distribute 6 TWh of biogas and biomethane. In our project pipeline, we have several projects for biogas and biomethane production, as well as fueling stations for liquid biogas (LBG). Read more about our projects here!
Skånes Fagerhult, Sweden
Skånes Fagerhult is an urban area in the municipality of Örkelljunga in Skåne, located right by the E4 highway. The community is surrounded by beautiful nature, with beech forests situated right next to residential areas.
Convert manure and residual products into biogas
St1 Biokraft is planning to build a production facility for liquid biogas (LBG) in this area. The gas will primarily be generated from manure from local animal husbandry. In addition to manure, other residual products from agriculture and food production will also be utilized.
The production is expected to commence in mid 2026 and will generate approximately 130 GWh, equivalent to the energy content of 15 million liters of diesel. The annual CO2 reduction is estimated to be 53,000 tons. Additionally, the facility will produce 200,000 to 400,000 tons of high-quality biogas digestate for the region's agriculture.
Facts
Capacity: 130 GWh (LBG)
Main substrate: Manure
Status: Investment decision by Q1 2025.
Planned production start: Middle of 2026
Government support: Klimatklivet

Västerlösa, Sweden
Västerlösa is a town in the western part of Linköping Municipality in Östergötland. The area mainly consists of farmland with some forest and small watercourses.
Transforming Manure and Agricultural By-products into Biogas and Biofertiliser
St1 Biokraft will build a production facility for liquefied biogas (LBG). The gas will primarily be produced from manure from livestock in the area. In addition to manure, other agricultural and food production by-products will also be utilized.
Production is expected to begin in the end of 2027 and will produce approximately 230 GWh, equivalent to the energy content of 20-25 million liters of diesel. The annual CO2 reduction is estimated at 73,000 tons. The facility will also produce 300,000-400,000 tons of high-quality biofertilizer for the region's agriculture.

Mönsterås, Sweden
Mönsterås, located in Kalmar County, is one of the country's most densely populated municipalities in terms of livestock. Many farmers in the area are seeking new solutions to enhance and expand their operations in a sustainable manner. Based on this, St1 Biokraft and Mönsterås Biogas have signed a collaboration agreement to build and operate a biogas plant that will produce liquid biogas and sanitized biogas digestate by recycling farmers' manure. The parties have formed a joint development company, Mönsterås Biogasproduktion AB, which will be responsible for future production.
Abundant availability of substrate and strong local support
Mönsterås is a fantastic location for this type of project, with ample availability of substrate combined with strong local support and committed partners. The intended customers include major fuel station companies, industrial and maritime actors, as well as larger European energy companies.
The biogas plant will convert manure from cattle, pig, chicken, and egg production in the area into liquid biogas (LBG) and various types of refined biogas digestate. The facility is designed for an annual production of 125 GWh of biogas and approximately 250,000 tons of high-quality biogas digestate in different fractions, both in liquid and solid forms.
Facts
Capacity: 120 GWh (LBG)
Main substrate: Manure
Status: Under construction
Planned production start: Q2 2025
Estimated net investment: 600 million SEK
Perstorp, Sweden
Perstorp is a locality in Perstorp Municipality in Skåne, Sweden, where the industrial group Perstorp AB was founded more than 140 years ago and continues to be a major industrial player. The community is surrounded by beautiful nature. Outside the urban area, Perstorp AB operates an industrial park which is suitable for the establishment of a biogas plant, both in terms of location and access to industrial infrastructure such as access to electricity, water and sewerage, heat and more.
Convert manure and residues into biogas
Here, St1 Biokraft plans to build a production plant for biogas connected to the gas grid, in order to make the gas available to customers in western Sweden and northern Europe. The gas will mainly be produced from manure from animal husbandry in the area. In addition to fertilizer, other residual products from agriculture and food production will also be utilized.
Production is expected to begin in 2027 and will produce about 130 GWh, or the equivalent energy content of just over 13 million litres of diesel. The annual CO2 reduction is estimated at 77,000 tonnes. The plant will also produce high-quality biofertilizer for the region's agriculture. Furthermore, separated CO2 will be upgraded and liquefied, in order to be able to replace fossil CO2, which further contributes to the climate benefit.

STOCKHOLM BIO-LNG
St1 Biokraft intends to expand and upgrade its facilities in Stockholm.
In Södertörn, the expansion will include an increased gas production capacity and a liquefaction plant. It will be capable of producing both compressed biogas (CBG) and liquid biogas (Bio-LNG).
Efforts are also underway to connect the Södertörn facility to the gas grid in Stockholm, enabling the gas produced in Henriksdal to be transported to Södertörn for conversion into Bio-LNG.
Facts
Planned capacity: 120 GWh (Bio-LNG)
Expected production start: Second half of 2023
Estimated net investment: 200 million SEK
Skogn, Norway
The facilities in Skogn are also planned for upgrading and expansion.
The functionality of the plant is designed to process approximately 110,000 tons of waste, including silage from the Norwegian salmon farming industry, manure, and other organic waste streams.
